Illustrated southeastflavaa cover art — three painted faces with dark hair riding a rowing boat through swirling waves

Logo design by Derrick Nguyễn

Southeastflavaa is a passion project born of three friends — Logan, a content creator focused on fashion and hairstyling; Derrick, a fine artist working in drawing and painting; and myself, approaching it through photography and visual brand identity. Because fashion, food, and art are central to all three of us, our goal has always been to have fun with this project while learning about ourselves in the process.

Our first focus was creating videos about Southeast Asian food and culture. But behind that was something bigger. We'd all felt it — the way Southeast Asian culture gets overlooked or dismissed while East Asian culture gets celebrated. The socioeconomic gaps, the beauty standard biases, the idea that our food and our people aren't "trending" enough to matter. It's a conversation that's only recently started making noise online, and we wanted to be part of it.

We took our time with what we posted, and we can confidently say we stayed true to that, and the brand identity slowly began to develop over time. While the project is still in its early stages, I plan to keep going.
